Social Media Rules of Engagement

Updated May 2023

The Olympia School District has established limited public forums on its social media pages to share information about the topics designated by OSD in each post. Some OSD social media channels allow comments, including Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. Some do not, such as YouTube.

The Olympia School District may moderate content (including links to third-party websites) that is or contains criminal, obscene or sexual content, threatens or defames any person or organization, violates the legal ownership interest of another party, supports or opposes political candidates or ballot propositions, promotes illegal activity, promotes commercial services or products, is disruptive and not topically related to the particular posting, is disruptive and repetitive, violates trademarks or copyrights, and/or contains disruptive content that promotes, fosters or perpetuates discrimination on the basis of a protected category, including but not limited to race, creed, color, age, religion, gender, marital status, status with regard to public assistance, national origin, physical or mental disability, or sexual orientation.

The district will not, however, remove otherwise permissible comments based on viewpoint. Please note the district reserves the right at any time to discontinue comments and engagement with content posted on its social media platforms. Any content posted to this site may be subject to public disclosure under the Washington State Public Records Act, ch. 42.56 RCW.
