Pioneer offers a variety of fun activities for students.  Some of these actitivies include:

After School Art Class

Art for Kids School is pleased to offer after school art classes at Pioneer.  Classes take place on Tuesdays from 3:15 - 4:15 pm (ages 5-8) and 4:30 - 5:30 pm (ages 9-12).  The emphasis in this multimedia, fine art program is to develop skills and enhance self-esteem in regards to creativity.  This class is ongoing, open to new and returning students, and projects are not repeated.  Kids will have an opportunity to explore their creativity through a variety of materials, including pen and ink, scratchboard, pastels, acrylics, clay and bronze.  Please visit for registration.

Homework Club

Homework Club is available for 3rd - 5th graders on Mondays and Thursdays from 3:02 - 4:00 pm.  If you are interested in having your student attend, please sign up in the Pioneer office.

School Plays

The Pioneer PTA supports our annual school play through Apple Tree Productions.  Students in grades 3-5 are invited to audition for the school play.  Everyone gets a part, and students grow and learn about theater in the process.  This year's production is Alice in Wonderland. 

  • There is an informational parent meeting on Tuesday, January 14 at 7:00 pm in the Pioneer library.
  • An audition workshop will be held on February 7 from 3:05 - 4:30 pm at Pioneer.
  • Rehearsals will take place after school at Pioneer from 3:05 - 5:30 pm at Pioneer.
  • Performances will take place on March 7 and 8 at Olympia High School's Performing Arts Center.
  • Cost is $135 per student.  Scholarships are available.

Band is offered for fifth grade students during the lunch recess period. There is no cost to participate but instrument rental fees may be necessary. Scholarships are available; please inquire in the school office. There will be a Beginning Band Night at WMS on Monday, Sept. 16 at 5:30 pm.

Orchestra is offered for fourth and fifth graders during the lunch recess period. Rental fees for instruments may apply. Scholarship are available; please inquire in the school office.  There will be Orchestra Parent Meetings at OHS on Wednesday, Sept. 11 and Thursday, Sept. 12 at 7:00 pm.

Student Council

Student Council is a school service opportunity for students in fourth and fifth grades at Pioneer.  The Student Council helps put on assemblies and run a variety of programs and projects.  Students must submit an application to join the Student Council.  Applications are available in the Pioneer office.  Leadership is chosen through an interview process with Mr. Weeks. 

Student Council activities include Morning Announcements, Get Up and Get Moving, Assemblies, Food Drive, Fall Carnival, Movie Nights, Spirit Week, Sustainability, Clean Up Crew and more!

Safety Patrol

Pioneer fifth graders work the cross walks in the mornings and afternoons to help keep students safe when walking or riding to school.  Fifth grade teacher Mr. Olmsted trains and organizes this dedicated group.
